OH BOY I'VE BEEN BUSY.
This past week, and the week before, has just been nonstop IRL work. Holidays means more work for me, ironically, in regards to the business I work in.
KinnPorsche Episode 11 was fucking amazing. I feel like I keep saying "ok but THIS is my favorite episode" after each episode airs, but Episodes 10 and 11 were just solid tour de forces. I'm amazed at how frankly the show tackled some mature themes about abuse+generational trauma and really, really rounded out the characters, and I'm even more impressed after reading translated excerpts of the big academic lecture that the cast+lead director/producer+acting coach did just the other day.
I genuinely hope the whole lecture gets fully subbed because it goes over not just the thought process of each actor and how they approached the characters, but the structural organization of the set, how they decided to throw out all of the hierarchy that's usually a part of the Thai film industry, and encouraging actors like Apo (Porsche) and Tong (Tankhun) to not suppress the way they are or fit a certain kind of male persona was very interesting. It's something that's new to me, as a newly minted fan of live action BL dramas, especially since I tend to try to hold the idol and showbiz culture elements at arm's length as much as possible (especially on social media, where kpop/stan style fandom is an unrelenting torrent)
Other things--I'm going to be meeting up IRL for 4th of July with some of my closest friends for the first time in, shit, possibly a year. I'm kind of nervous since I have basically tried to stay as safe as possible, but I'll try to stay calm and do testing before and after I visit. I'm going to be meeting them all again in August when two of my friends are getting married, so this is like a rehearsal, lol.
Come to think of it, these two friends of mine who are getting married, I originally met via LiveJournal. I randomly became friends with another longtime friend of ours thru the Kaiji Community, and then went to Yaoicon to meet the whole gang--and the rest is history. I can't believe that I've been friends with these guys for over ten years now. It's almost fitting that I'm writing about it here on Dreamwidth. Full circle.
